Colorado insurance agent Christine Hample plays role of customer educator

In 2010, Colorado insurance agent Christine Hample was named one of the country’s top 20 independent personal insurance agents by Travelers. Among the criteria for the honor: a dedication to top-notch customer service. Hample strives to embody that dedication.

“We educate our customers on the benefit of financially solid insurance companies and help them … get the best value,” says Hample, principal of Hample Insurance Service LLC in Greenwood Village, Colo. The firm was founded in 1997.

Colorado insurance agent Christine Hample was named one of Travelers’ top independent personal insurance agents in 2010.

In honoring Hample and her 19 agent-of-the-year counterparts, Greg Toczydlowski, president of personal insurance at Travelers, said they “really exemplify what it means to be a top agent in our industry.”

In Hample’s estimation, a customer who buys a policy based on price alone could end up with the right coverage from the wrong company, or the wrong coverage from the right company.

Among the ways that Hample serves her customers is by performing a once-a-year insurance checkup. Has a customer gotten married? Has a customer made improvements to his home? Has a customer started driving a shorter distance to and from work?

Hample also reviews potential insurance discounts and “credits” with prospective and current policyholders. Her customers earn credits and discounts for such things as:

  • Paying an insurance premium in full.
  • Paying a premium via electronic funds transfer.
  • Insuring several cars.
  • Buying more than one type of coverage from the same insurer, such as auto and home.
  • Installing a home security system.

Not every insurance company offers all of the possible discounts, though. While one company may give you a discount for being a longtime customer, another may forgive your first auto accident.

“We create a relationship with the customer,” Hample says. “If they don’t fit within the underwriting guidelines of one company, we find another and we move our clients from company to company, depending on their needs and the insurance companies’ guidelines.”

Such advice is built on Hample’s more than 20 years of experience in the insurance business. “I pride myself on being a leader and mentor,” she says on her agency’s website.
