Fire Insurance for tennants? Home Owner ?
Question by mick: Fire Insurance for tennants? Home Owner ?
If you own your home and have fire insurance for yourself but decide to move out and rent out the house, would you need to notify fire insurance provider. Would your rates go up would you not be insured in the event of a fire?
Thanks
Would you not be covered if you did not notify the fire insurance company for the dwelling or just your personal property?
thanks

You would need to change your policy from a homeowners insurance polity to a rental dwelling policy.
You need to notify your insurance company. And, I would suggest you make it mandatory that your renter gets renters insurance to cover their own personal property. It’s cheap and they get a discount on the auto insurance if they take it with the same company.
