has anyone gone through an “apprisal process” after a house fire with their insurance company?

Question by lettie: has anyone gone through an “apprisal process” after a house fire with their insurance company?
My insurance company won’t negotiate the dollar value of my house with my General Contractor. And he has left out some repairs that need to be made to my home. He isn’t addressing everything he should. Does anyone have any experience with going through the appraisal process? Is it something that is good for the homeowner or the insurance company. Thanks for your input. Lettie

The appraisal clause of the policy is not a fast way to get anything resolved. It is a long process and can get complicated. You will have to document everything very well. You can’t just ask for stuff that you want. You have to proof your case.

If what you are asking for is legit you might want to talk to a claim supervisor or claim manager to see if they would be willing to review the claim and compromise with you and the contractor.

I have three claims right now in the middle of the appraisal process and they all have been going on at least 3 months.
