How do I find an agent to get renters insurance?
I’m a poor, poor boy and a long ways from home, and it feels like I ain’t got no friends.
So, I need to get some renter’s insurance. Do I find some locations in my area and setup an appointment? What all do I need to bring with me?

Just about any insurance agent sells these – State Farm has the best service in my opinion.
Go to your local insurance agent, State FArm, Allstate, Farmers. TAke copy of lease and ID and checkbook.
Insurance companies will need basic information like square footage, what type of building, how old is it, how many fire exits there are. This information you can obtain from your landlord. Many of the banks will have some sort of insurance. Or you can go with pretty much any insurance company like State Farm, ING, Cooperaters, Wawensa. Many companies will take appointments or you may be able to get a quote over the phone. Make sure that when you are getting the insurance that you have checked more then one company for the best rate. Insurance may be regulated but each company still haves very different rates. If you have some sort of insurance with an insurance company already like car insurance then consider getting your rental insurance with the same company. As you will then have what is considered a multiline insurance which basically means then they will give you a small discount for having more then one type of insurance,
http://www.iiaa.org and hit the agent locator button. They will list agents by zip code, near you.
They’ll tell you what to bring – but mostly, it’s just your checkbook.
The place that will likely be the cheapest for you is the place you bought your car insurance, as they usually give multi-policy discounts.
Otherwise, all the big companies can get it for you – Geico, State Farm, Travellers, Progressive.
Call your current car insurance (or home) insurance provider first to see what it would cost with them. Sometimes you can bundle both renter’s and car (or home) together and get the renter’s free. I’d suggest going to an independent agency where they can get you the best price by comparing multiple companies.
~~I agree State Farm is the best. However any agent which sells homeowners also carries renters insurance. So look up agents in your area, you can usually handle it by phone.~~
You can search for local Homeowners Insurance agents online and ask them for a quote regarding Renters Insurance. You can buy them online or over the phone. It should range from $10-$20. Be sure you get a quote with a combined auto policy and take advantage of the discounts they offer for having more than one accounts.
What you need to provide them is your basic contact info and information regarding your new home, condo, or apartment. Year built and structure of your location, you can ask your landlord if you don’t know it.
If you don’t have any friends, a great way to start is go on myspace and do a search by your zip code.
Renter’s insurance is usually not required, it is just as necessary to have… Renters insurance doesn’t just help provide coverage for everyday necessities like furniture and clothes. It also helps protect theft-prone valuables like your laptop and bike – wherever you take them…. To get started with a renters insurance policy, you simply need to make a list of the property that you want insured, along with serial numbers and any purchase receipts that you have…
